Research Description
- I am currently a 1st year Ph.D. candidate. My research is focusing on persistence of residential-use pesticides on hard surfaces.
- Many research and monitoring results have demonstrated that many urban creeks, water columns and sediments are contaminated by pesticides of urban-use origin. However, these surveys cannot provide sufficient information for environmental planning and management.
- Some preliminary experiments have been performed. To simulate urban runoff, a concrete surface was spiked with some common residential-use pesticides. After exposure to direct sunlight for different time intervals the spiked surface was washed with water. These pesticides showed a fast disappearance rate in this simulated urban runoff. Further research is in preparation.
